It was raining this morning and I’m not gonna lie, I almost bailed. My routine is simple, I move first thing every day regardless of conditions. I got up, threw some clothes on, and hit 30 hard minutes on the bike. It felt great and I easily could have stopped there and called it a win. But part of my process is the daily walk, and that’s where the negotiation started. It was raining hard, the kind of rain where you already know nobody else is going to be outside. No umbrella, cold air, wet pavement, all the convenient excuses lined up perfectly. I started telling myself I’d just skip it today. One day doesn’t matter. I already worked out. Then I paused and asked a better question, what is actually the worst thing that can happen? I get wet. That was the honest answer. So I bundled up, stepped outside, and committed. And the worst thing happened. I got wet. Outside of that, it was phenomenal. About five minutes into the walk it hit me that the real challenge was never the rain, it was leaving the house. There was nothing about that 45 minutes in a cold, wet Charlotte morning that was remotely uncomfortable compared to what many people on this planet are dealing with right now. It’s perspective. If you’ve ever trained with me you’ve heard me repeat the same line, look at what we get. We get opportunity today. I don’t just say that for motivation, I say it because it’s true. It is a privilege to move your body. As inconvenient as rain feels, there is someone somewhere who would give anything to walk, squat, lunge, stand, or simply step outside on their own. We get so locked into our own bubble that we forget the scale of that blessing. Life is meant to be experienced, not avoided, and today is another chance to create more opportunities tomorrow. No amount of perceived discomfort compares to real hardship, and every single time I finish that walk I feel the same clarity, gratitude, and energy. I am always glad I did it. Today I almost traded that feeling for comfort and that’s what stood out the most. This morning reinforced a simple truth. The hardest part is almost always getting started. Most people don’t fail because they lack ability, they fail because they wait for motivation as if motivation has to show up before action. In reality it works the other way around. You create motivation by doing. My only goal this morning was putting clothes on, not finishing the walk, not enjoying it, just start. Once that happened the outcome was inevitable because inertia takes over. You cannot walk if you never put your shoes on. You cannot train if you never show up. You cannot change your life if you never begin. The next time resistance shows up, don’t focus on the finish line and don’t worry about how you’ll feel halfway through. Focus on the first step. Open the door. If you woke up today, you’ve already been given an opportunity. The only decision left is whether you’ll use it.

I Almost Didn’t Go

I had a moment this week that stuck with me. Honestly, I don’t love the way I handled it, but you be the judge. I asked a young woman I’ve never trained a simple question: “What do I need to know about you?”Orthopedic history. Perceived fitness level. You. I care about motives. I care about what’s driving the person in front of me. So I followed it up with, “What’s your relationship with fitness?” She laughed and said it’s evolving. Developing. A situationship if you will. Fair enough. Then I asked the question that really matters: “What do you actually want to accomplish?” Why did you wake up at 5:30 in the morning to be here today?She said, “I guess I want to get stronger.”Cool. Peace and respect.“So, What’s your plan?” I askedShe paused. “I don’t know… I guess sign up for some more classes.”And that’s where it hit me. Not just for her, but for a lot of people.That’s leaving your life up to chance.I wasn’t trying to be harsh, but I felt it was important to express loudly. There is no accidental hustle. Things don’t just happen. You make them happen. You don’t stumble into success. You create opportunity by how you use today. Today is the tool. Today is the lever. What are you doing today that puts you in position to win tomorrow?It has to be intentional. Thought out. It starts with a real why. Not a surface-level why. Not “I want to look good for a wedding.” That has an end date. That expires. What’s the bigger picture? What does this allow you to do long-term? Who does this help you become?Look at the people older than you who inspire you. What do they have in common? They take care of themselves. They move well. They’re strong. They have energy. Now look at the people who don’t inspire you. We all have examples. What traits show up there? That contrast matters. There are lessons everywhere if you’re willing to look honestly.Once that becomes clear, then you build the process.If the goal is strength, the process is obvious. Strength train three days a week. That’s it. No magic. For me, that might look like Monday, Wednesday and Friday being non-negotiables. Those days are tools. They’re scheduled. They’re protected. And then it comes down to discipline and self-love, which is really the same thing. Holding yourself accountable. Showing up even when you don’t feel like it.Left to willpower alone, most people fail. But when the reason is bigger than you, and the process is defined by small, repeatable wins, now you’ve got a real shot.Big picture, you don’t rise to the level of your goals. There is No Accidental Hustle

I think about doors a lot. A door represents a decision, an opportunity, and a cost. On the other side could be a bright, shiny day, or it could be cold, miserable, and uncomfortable. We don’t open doors randomly. We open them because we believe there’s something on the other side worth the effort. Some doors are easy. If there’s food on the other side, I don’t hesitate. The second I hear my Grubhub delivery driver knock, I’m off the couch immediately. That door opens fast. No preparation. No resistance. The reward is immediate, comfortable, and familiar, so the decision is effortless. I'm back on that couch so fast you can see the print from where I was seated. Other doors slow you down. When it’s raining, 48 degrees, and the wind is cutting through you, the process changes. You bundle up. You check the weather. You hesitate. Resistance shows up. But the truth is simple. You wouldn’t be leaving the house at all if there wasn’t something on the other side that mattered. A job. A workout. Growth. Opportunity. Easy rewards create fast decisions. Meaningful rewards require intention. Life works the same way. Every single day, you’re presented with doors. Waking up is one. Choosing gratitude is one. Taking the stairs instead of the escalator. Showing up when it would be easier not to. Every door has a reward on the other side. The only question is which reward you value more. The most successful people I know aren’t immune to resistance. They just understand it. They can see a great outcome on the other side even when there’s struggle in between. They know the cost upfront. Time. Discomfort. Consistency. Sacrifice. And they accept it anyway. Everyone wants the result. Very few people are willing to consistently pay the price. Perspective is everything. The more often you walk through discomfort, the more familiar it becomes. The more familiar it becomes, the less power it has over you. Eventually, you stop fearing it, not because it feels good, but because you trust what’s on the other side. When the value is clear, resistance loses its grip. I’ll ask my clients, “You in or out?” and they’ll look at me crazy. I get it. They just spent money. They showed up. Of course they’re in. But that’s not what I’m asking. I see you standing here, you showed up physically but where are you mentally? Half the battle is showing up. Frankly, it’s the hardest part of anything, but what you do with that opportunity is what actually counts. That’s not just training. That’s life. You wake up. The door is open. You’re blessed. You’ve got vision, perspective, and opportunity sitting right in front of you. The question is what are you going to do with it? Are you going to go through the motions? &nbsp;You going to half-ass it? Or are you going to fully opt in and take advantage of what’s available to you? Don’t just open the door. Step through it with intention. Be present. Opt in. That’s where growth lives.

The Door

We talk about motivation like it’s something we need to find. As if we’re supposed to wait around for the perfect spark before we get moving. But that’s the trap. Motivation isn’t passive. It’s not something that appears out of nowhere. Motivation is active. You create it through doing, not through waiting. The sooner you accept that, the sooner your life changes. The truth is simple: action drives motivation. Every meaningful thing you’ve ever accomplished started with a step you didn’t fully feel ready for. You weren’t fired up before you started. You were hesitant, tired, unsure, maybe even scared. But the second you moved, something shifted. Movement created momentum. Momentum built motivation. Motivation turned into passion. And passion is never innate. It’s built from hours of doing the reps nobody sees. The pro was just the amateur who kept showing up long enough to let the work shape them. That applies to fitness, careers, creativity, finances, and everything else that matters. The hardest part of anything will always be the beginning. No one wakes up excited to wash dishes. But wash one spoon and suddenly the kitchen is spotless. That’s how activation works. You start small and the effort compounds. Most people never get consistent because they never take the first step. They’re overwhelmed, they don’t know where to begin, and they let that uncertainty freeze them. But the irony is that your problem is actually your solution. You start by identifying the simplest possible first step and then you execute. If you want to run a marathon, start with a walk. If you want to learn to draw, pick up a pencil. If you want to get strong, step foot in the gym. Do that consistently and you will figure it out. You always do. Fear is what blocks most people from ever discovering who they could become. Fear of failure, fear of judgment, fear of the unknown. But the unknown is always outside your control. You cannot control the future because it doesn’t exist yet. You cannot alter the past because it lives only in memory. The only place you actually exist is the present. When you define success by your process, by what you do today, you strip fear of its power. The goal is no longer some distant finish line. The goal becomes: did I execute today? And if the answer is yes, success becomes inevitable. Set your goals. Define them. Lock them in. Then forget about the goal and shift your energy toward the daily behaviors that pull you forward. Show up. Start small. Be consistent. Take the next right step. When you make success dependent on your actions rather than your emotions, motivation no longer controls you. Consistency does. And consistency builds its own momentum. It fuels its own fire. It guarantees progress. At that point, success stops being a question of if and becomes a matter of when.
